What's Taking Over the Old Preston's and Arrivederci Spaces on Pinnacle Peak Road?

October 8, 2026

Two long-running restaurant spaces on East Pinnacle Peak Road have new tenants this fall. Il Segreto, an upscale Italian restaurant, opened on August 12, 2026, at 8900 E. Pinnacle Peak Road, in the space Arrivederci used to occupy. A few doors west, at The Citadel at 8700 E. Pinnacle Peak Road, the former Preston's Steakhouse space reopens on November 2 as ALMA Southwest Steakhouse.

Taken together, the new tenants are adding evening options to this stretch of road. One planned dessert shop is built to stay open late, a new rooftop lounge will have live music, and a newer Indian restaurant up on Jomax serves dinner only. Meanwhile, Pinnacle Peak Park closes earlier every two weeks through December. That makes this fall a season of earlier hikes and longer evenings on the corridor.

Preston's Left Because of the Building

The ALMA story starts with Preston's Steakhouse. After more than a decade at The Citadel, Preston's closed in 2025. Its closing announcement cited the condition of the building and the repairs it needed. Phoenix New Times included Preston's in a roundup of local closures in August 2025.

The space stayed open for a new tenant. Earlier in 2026, ALMA announced it would close its previous location and move farther north. Sheila Bryson, ALMA's founder and CEO, told What Now Phoenix that the move brings ALMA closer to her group's other restaurants: Soul Café, Vic & Ola's, Pescada, and Little Snitch.

So the move follows a clear logic. One operator already had a restaurant at The Citadel and now holds the space next to it as well. Little Snitch, which was listed among Scottsdale's new restaurants in 2024, is the existing anchor.

One Chef, Several Doors at The Citadel

The new ALMA is bigger than a single dining room. Patch and What Now Phoenix both reported in July that the plans cover the following:

  • A Southwest steakhouse built around wood-fired cooking, with flavors from Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, and Northern Mexico
  • Copper Club, a rooftop lounge with live music and cocktails
  • A tequila bar offering tequila and mezcal tastings, plus chef-created tacos and small bites
  • The return of Barbwire Western Couture, Bryson's former Western boutique

Next door, Little Scoops will be an old-fashioned ice cream parlor connected through Little Snitch. Forking Scottsdale reports that it is designed to stay open later into the evening, as a late dessert stop for people dining along the Pinnacle Peak corridor. It is expected to open around the same time as ALMA, but no firm date has been published.

The opening date has already moved once. In July, ALMA announced on social media that it was aiming for October 1. At the time, Bryson said construction progress could push the date into early November. That is what happened. Forking Scottsdale's October 1 newsletter lists opening day as November 2, and reservations are already live on OpenTable. The restaurant's phone number is 480-284-6736. ALMA's own website says the menu is still a work in progress and expected to change.

A New Look for the Old Arrivederci Space

The other change is down the road at 8900 E. Pinnacle Peak Road, behind Lamp Pizza and Raven Gastropub. Il Segreto opened there on a Wednesday, August 12. Forking Scottsdale identifies the owner as Jameson Neuhoff of Segreto Restaurant Group LLC. Published coverage so far does not name the chef.

The name means "The Secret." The restaurant describes itself as refined Italian, built around seasonal cooking, quality ingredients, wine, and hospitality. Forking Scottsdale visited days after opening and wrote that the old Arrivederci space had been completely transformed into something "darker, moodier, more sophisticated." That is a fair summary of the change. The room is no longer the same restaurant with a new sign.

With Il Segreto open and ALMA arriving at The Citadel, this short stretch of Pinnacle Peak Road will soon have an Italian dining room, a Southwest steakhouse with a rooftop lounge, a tequila bar, and a late-night ice cream parlor, all within walking distance of Lamp Pizza and Raven Gastropub.

Up on Jomax, a Dinner-Only Newcomer

The same evening pattern shows up a short drive north. Vilvas Indian Cuisine opened in Troon North near Pinnacle Peak Park. A Forking Scottsdale first look published July 18, 2026, described it as already open. According to its online ordering page, Vilvas is at 10434 E. Jomax Road and is open 3 to 9 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday.

The bar followed later. Forking Scottsdale reported it open by September 3. The restaurant's site now lists a bar happy hour from 3 to 6 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday. Vilvas does not serve lunch, so for a Pinnacle Peak Park hiker, it is an afternoon or evening stop.

The Park Closes a Little Earlier Every Two Weeks

Pinnacle Peak Park at 26802 N. 102nd Way runs on a posted schedule that changes every two weeks. The City of Scottsdale's hours sheet is a recurring annual schedule with no year printed on it, so confirm with the park before an early or late visit. For October through December, it lists these hours:

  1. October 1 to 14: 6 a.m. to 6:15 p.m.
  2. October 15 to 31: 6:15 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  3. November 1 to 14: 6:30 a.m. to 5:45 p.m.
  4. November 15 to 30: 6:45 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
  5. December: 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., closed December 25

From early October to December, closing time moves 45 minutes earlier. By the time ALMA opens on November 2, the park closes at 5:45 p.m. Later in November, it closes at 5:30, which leaves plenty of evening for a reservation on Pinnacle Peak Road. Vilvas opens at 3 p.m., well before the trail closes, so an afternoon hike and an early dinner on Jomax fit easily in the same day.

The Friends of Pinnacle Peak Park also run guided programs through the end of the year. Its October to December 2026 calendar includes evening astronomy sessions, wildlife presentations, yoga, guided geology hikes, and sunset and full-moon hikes. Three dates stand out for pairing with dinner:

  • October 25, 4:30 to 6:15 p.m.: A sunset and full-moon hike to Grandview Overlook. It is a moderate 1.5-mile round trip with no registration required.
  • November 21, 9 to 11 a.m.: A guided geology hike. It is a moderate three-quarter-mile hike, and online registration is required.
  • November 24, 4:30 to 6 p.m.: A second sunset and full-moon hike, also with no registration required.

The October 25 listing runs until 6:15 p.m., which is 15 minutes after the posted 6 p.m. closing time for late October. The individual event pages also carry an older publication timestamp. Confirm details on the Friends of Pinnacle Peak Park events page before you go. Both full-moon hikes end in time for a dinner reservation a few minutes down the road, and the November 24 hike falls after ALMA's planned opening.
