"As of September 28th, Saint Urban has transitioned to the Saint Urban Private Dining Room, available for holiday parties, memorable events, and life's most important moments."
That was the statement the restaurant gave to Mouth By Southwest at the end of September. It was the second time since July that a sit-down dinner room at The Village on Hayden, the center at Hayden Road and Via de Ventura, stopped taking walk-in diners. Over the same months, three other restaurants on this part of N. Hayden opened or announced openings. All of them stretch past a single evening seating, with lunch buffets, daily happy hours, or morning coffee. By November, McCormick Ranch's stretch of Hayden will have about as many places to eat as it had in June, open across more hours of the day.
Two Dinner Rooms at 8260 N. Hayden, Both Closed by Fall
The first change came at the end of July. Campo Italian Bistro & Bar, the Genuine Concepts restaurant on the northwest corner of Hayden and Via de Ventura, served its last dinner on Friday, July 31. It had opened in June 2021. In its closing announcement, Genuine Concepts called the decision a difficult one after years of building ties with the neighborhood through cooking classes, community events, and dishes like Seba's Meatballs and house-made pastas. Phoenix New Times reported that the suite would be available to a new tenant. None of the coverage gathered for this post names a successor.
Eight weeks later, Saint Urban made its change. Christopher Collins's wine bar and brasserie had opened in November 2024 in the former Rockefeller space. It served shareable small plates and only Arizona craft beers. The room is still there, now booked only for private events. The restaurant says dates are already booking through the end of 2026 and into 2027.
Diners who had Saint Urban reservations were rebooked at other Common Ground restaurants, including Collins Brothers Public House, according to Phoenix New Times. That restaurant is in the same center, at 8220 N. Hayden, and is still open. Its brunch page lists Saturday and Sunday brunch from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Collins hasn't left the corner. One of his two dining rooms there is now reserved for events.
Both addresses appear in the McCormick Ranch Property Owners' Association's retail directory: Campo at 8260 N. Hayden, Suite C-102, and Saint Urban at Suite A-100 in the same building number. That version of the directory is dated August 24, before Saint Urban's change, and it still listed both.
The Openings Cover More of the Day
The restaurants opening nearby are built for a different schedule.
Bombay House, 8140 N. Hayden Road. The second location of this Tempe Indian restaurant opened in July, according to PHOENIX magazine's monthly roundup of openings and closings. Its Scottsdale page lists two daily service windows, 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 5 to 9 p.m. It offers a lunch buffet and a dinner buffet every day, plus an à la carte menu. It's in the same Hayden and Via de Ventura area as Campo and Saint Urban, and it's the one restaurant there that serves both lunch and dinner seven days a week.
Vecina, 8300 N. Hayden Road, Suite D-101. James Fox's Latin-inspired restaurant from Arcadia, nominated for a James Beard Best New Restaurant award in 2020, opened its second location on Friday, Sept. 18. It took over the former Z'Tejas building. That space had been empty since Z'Tejas closed all of its Arizona locations on June 30, 2025. The building is about three times the size of the Arcadia restaurant. The extra room went to a bigger kitchen, private dining areas, a mezzanine, a lakeside patio, and a cocktail bar framed by a mural from Tato Caraveo.
When it opened, Vecina served dinner only, 4 to 9 p.m. daily. Happy hour runs 4 to 6 p.m., when the karaage, a $17 appetizer of fried chicken over aji amarillo sauce, is $2 off. Phoenix New Times reported that lunch is planned for the coming months and brunch is among the other possibilities. The menu also includes ceviche, mussels, a tlayuda, smoked chicken, a pork chop and a mesquite-grilled ribeye.
DASH, 9619 N. Hayden Road, Suite 101. This is the clearest example of the trend, and it hasn't opened yet. Chef Matt Carter is behind The Mission, Fat Ox and Zinc Bistro. DASH is his first completely new concept in a decade, as PhoenixBites put it. It's going into the former Fired Pie space in Mountain View Plaza, at Hayden and Mountain View. Phoenix New Times describes it as an all-day neighborhood restaurant and market:
- Morning: coffee, pastries and breakfast.
- Midday: sandwiches, salads and Roman-style pizza.
- Evening: charcoal chicken, soft serve and drinks.
- Anytime: curbside pickup and online ordering.
Dishes announced so far include a BLT with salt-cured tomato and bacon-infused Duke's mayo, Portuguese-style charcoal chicken with potatoes, and house-made sodas, including a mushroom cola.
Where Each Meal Happens on Hayden Now
Here is the Hayden Road lineup as of early October, by time of day. All hours come from each restaurant's own site or from opening coverage, and they could change as the season goes on.
| Time of day | Where on Hayden | Detail |
|---|---|---|
| Weekday lunch | Bombay House, 8140 N. Hayden | Buffet and à la carte, 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. daily |
| Early evening | Vecina, 8300 N. Hayden | Happy hour 4 to 6 p.m. daily |
| Dinner | Vecina; Bombay House | Vecina until 9 p.m.; Bombay House 5 to 9 p.m. |
| Weekend brunch | Collins Brothers Public House, 8220 N. Hayden | Saturday and Sunday, 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. |
| Private events | Saint Urban Private Dining Room, 8260 N. Hayden | Booking into 2027 |
| Morning coffee to night | DASH, 9619 N. Hayden | Expected November 2026 |
Before July, the two full-service dinner rooms at Hayden and Via de Ventura were Campo and Saint Urban, both evening places. By November, if DASH opens on schedule, three of the newer spots will be open earlier than 5 p.m., and one of them will start in the morning with coffee.
What Hasn't Been Settled Yet
DASH's opening date is the biggest open question. PhoenixBites gave "Expected November 2026" on Sept. 25, and Forking Scottsdale's Oct. 1 newsletter still had November. An AZ Big Media story published Oct. 8 and DASH's own site both say "this fall" without a day. Restaurant openings often slip, so November is a target for now.
The second open question is Vecina's lunch. No date has been announced, and its 4 to 9 p.m. schedule is what Mouth By Southwest printed on Sept. 21. If lunch starts, Hayden would have two sit-down lunch choices a short drive apart, where in early fall it had one.
The third is the former Campo suite at 8260 N. Hayden. In July, Phoenix New Times reported that it would become available after Campo's final service, and none of the later coverage gathered here says who is moving in. Whoever takes it will be opening next door to an events-only room, and up the road from three restaurants that open earlier in the day.
A lease ending, a restaurant changing its format, or a new tenant moving into an empty suite affects how a shopping center fits into the surrounding neighborhood. At Shields Regal Realty, we follow those changes along Hayden Road the same way McCormick Ranch residents do.
